Netflix is developing Let it Snow, which was written by Green and fellow authors Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle, into a film with production expected to begin in early 2019. The script was written by Victoria Strouse and Luke Snellin is expected to direct the adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel. The story centers on high school seniors in a small town who face unexpected opportunities and complications as a result of a massive snowstorm on Christmas Eve. While roles have yet to be confirmed, the cast was announced in January and it includes Isabela Moner, Shameik Moore, Odeya Rush, and Kiernan Shipka, the latter of whom recently appeared in Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Other cast members include Miles Robbins, Liv Hewson, and Joan Cusack.

In 2015, Green's novel Paper Towns was made into a film.Green's first novel, Looking for Alaska, was published 10 years prior to the film release of Paper Towns and its film rights were subsequently purchased by Paramount. Yet, the project has been unable to move forward without a director and Paramount is unwilling to sell the rights back to Green. The film rights to his second novel, An Abundance of Katherines, were purchased in 2007 by East of Doheny Productions. The film rights to his other novel, Will Grayson, have not been acquired, but Green recently signed a first-look deal with Fox 2000.
